Callum Bradshaw heads to the opening round of the IAME Euro Series this weekend flying with confidence after his superb lights to flag victory at Rowrah last weekend. Callum kicked off the new Ultimate Karting Championship with a maximum points score and the Brit will be looking to do something similar at Essay on Sunday.
The Essay circuit has become an addition to the calendar post COVID-19 and will be one that comes as no problem to Callum. He has had victories on the World stage on the fast and flowing track which includes winning the opening round of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy on his route to the title in 2016.
Callum’s last visit to Ouest Karting saw him finish 6th in the 2018 FIA Karting European Championship finale sealing him 11th in the standings. However, all of those races were on the OK engines which is a slightly different challenge to racing the Senior X30. The difference in speed and grip will be something Callum will have to adjust when taking on the Essay circuit this time, but as he has proven time and time again that should take him only a few laps to get used to.
Focusing on the circuit, it provides a shorter layout to the Valencia track and provides no real lengthy straights making overtaking more challenging. There are minimal spots to get moves done making qualifying on Friday even more important.
However, with those challenges comes fast, flowing sections which drivers always enjoy. Callum included! It will be a real test to the entire grid and will also be a challenge for drivers throughout the heats when it comes to tyre management. This is where Callum’s experience at racing at the highest level in the sport will come into effect.
It has been some five months since the IAME Winter Cup in Valencia and looking back although the final was one to forget for Cal, over the weekend he took wins in all three of his heats as well as 2nd in the Pre-Final. It was a sign that Callum is here to claim that title he just missed out on last year and he’ll look to get that title assault off to a fast start in France this weekend.
